1PAX – Architects is proud and thankful for being part of this one-of-its-kind project, innovative and bold.
UAM (Urban Aerial Mobility) is the latest aviation trend regarding innovation and clean energy aviation. A step into the future, that is no more science fiction but a reality.
Missioned by Skyports Infrastructure, we worked on the architectural premises of this new vertiport, 1st in Europe to be fully equipped and operational, thanks to the unified mission and effort of Groupe Adp, Paris Region, RATP, Skyports Infrastructure and Volocopter.

 

Skyports and Groupe ADP launched the European vertiport terminal testbed in November 2022. The site, located 40km northwest of Paris, France, plays an important part in the development of the AAM industry and will be used by Skyports and leading vehicle manufacturers for testing and demonstrating flight operations, ground infrastructure, technology integration, and the passenger experience (Skyports Infrastructure,2022).

 

“This is the first time anywhere in the world that people can really experience what it will be like to take a flying taxi. Our testbed in Paris allows us to fully prepare ahead of market launch to fulfill our ambitions of a no-wait, no-touch vertiport,” said Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports. “The next two years are focused on extensive testing of specific technologies and processes to ensure the safest and best passenger experience.” (Jennifer K.P. The terminal building itself is compact—about as big as a medium-sized apartment. The idea is that, having bought a ticket using a mobile-phone app, a passenger can check in rapidly and paperlessly. A facial-recognition scan confirms identity and a door sensor measures weight. This lets the craft, sitting on a pad just outside, calculate its load so that it knows how much power will b needed for the journey, and thus when its batteries will require topping up. There should be barely enough time to grab a cup of coffee before the less-than 20-minute hop downtown, avoiding the snarling rush-hour traffic below (The Economist, 2022)
